Walk No. 1

Leitir Road Walk:
5 km. / 3.2 miles (approx.) in length.

This beautiful walk takes you high up over a mountain with wonderful views down over Lough Corrib, Ross Lake and the surrounding countryside on one side.

Then down the other side into a wooded, boggy valley - whitened by the bog cotton, blowing gently in the breezes. On a clear crisp day you can see the Cliffs of Moher and the hills of Kerry in the distant southern sky.

Out here you could meet with, or chat to, some locals cutting, or saving, turf - a skill in its own right. You could meet someone herding cattle or sheep who would be delighted to welcome you - or........ you could just meet nobody and have the whole wonderful, peaceful place to yourself.......!!

You can continue to walk for miles further through the forest to greatly increase the length of the walk.

This walk can also be driven or cycled.
